In the heart of the industrial Docklands area sits a small factory, home to the E One Six London Studio. Surrounded by factories and warehouses, it’s hard to imagine how anything beautiful could be created here. Yet somehow, the fashion designer Daniel Blake has been able to do just that with his new collection of luxury men’s shirts under the label ‘E One Six London’ which takes it’s name from the East London postcode where the studio is based.
Since graduating from Kingston University in 1995, the British designer Daniel Blake has taken strides in the fashion world; working internationally with Sara Sturgeon and as a freelance designer for the Max Mara group. After launching his first womenswear collection in 2003 under his own name, his progression and continual references to men’s tailoring over the next few years led to a new idea; June 2010 saw the launch of E One Six London, a luxury line of men’s shirts.
In this new collection Blake fuses attention to detail and engineered construction with quality fabrics and production. The collection was designed to suit the lifestyle of ‘the modern man on the move’, taking him smoothly from office to bar to home. Clean lines and exquisite detailing, along with both crisp whites and subtle shades contribute to the appeal of this contemporary new label. The fabrics and shirts are produced in a single European factory - reducing the carbon footprint, and ensuring quality consistency. Each shirt is constructed from at least 35 separate pieces, taking a skilled worker a minimum of 80 minutes to make a shirt from start to finish. Because of this, each garment can be confidently stamped with the E One Six London logo.
